Lifestyles today aren't as they used to be. We seem to be getting less active. We aren't all sick but most of us are not as healthy as we could be either.

There are many little things that can be done to improve your health. These are things that you wouldn't even think of as being beneficial of even strenuous. Here are four simple tips.

Instead of taking advantage of the elevators or escalators why not take the stairs? It won't take up much more time and will be great exercise.

Living close to work also has some healthy advantages. You could walk or ride your bike and get great health benefits in no time. If there is a park nearby the office a lunch-time walk is also a great idea.

Another great tip is to drink more water. This is something that we all take for granted. A good practice is to always keep a bottle of water with you and remember to keep filling it up. Lots of water is absolutely good for you.

Fruit is another good thing to have on hand. At least on piece of fruit a day is a great benefit. That simple snack is going to pep you up as well as provide you with vitamins that your body needs to succeed.

Employers are even providing fruit to their employees these days. It has been proven that this practice is cutting down drastically on the amount of time lost due to sickness. Fruit is a vital element in our diets and makes more of a difference in our health than you would think.

Another thing to consider is your meat consumption. Having meat with every meal is not necessarily a good thing. It is not good for your body or the environment. Cutting back to only two meals a day with meat will be much better for you.

If you find yourself going on a number of first dates that don't lead to second and third dates, you may want to consider whether you hold incorrect beliefs about dating that are limiting your dating success. There are a number of myths about dating that reflect outdated beliefs about relationships. Let's consider some of the more common myths, and then compare them with the reality.

Myth: Don't talk about yourself on a date. If you talk about yourself, your date will think you are boring and conceited.

Reality: You have to talk about yourself, how else is your date supposed to get to know you? You don't want to monopolize the conversation and talk about nothing but yourself, but including information about you is a crucial part of making a good first impression.

You can be sure to balance information about yourself with questions that encourage your date to provide information about themselves as well. Asking questions is also a valuable way to signal interest. By expressing interest in the other person, as well as providing information about yourself, you show that you are open to intimacy and are interested enough to share things about yourself.

Myth: If you are friends with someone first, this helps in developing a relationship.

Reality: Sometimes, being friends with someone first can make it harder to develop a romantic attraction. When you are friends with someone, things between you are on a more casual level. This is at odds with the drama and excitement of a newly budding romantic attachment.

Myth: Eat salad on a date. You want the other person to think you are health- and weight-conscious.

Reality: If you normally would order salad, great! But, if you truly are not the salad type, order what you would normally order. You want the other person to see a bit of the real you, not an idealized version.

Also, you don't want the other person to think that you are going to be fussy, restrained, and picky about things. You want to come across as unafraid to be yourself, and to satisfy your needs.

Selecting A Screen For Your Home Theater

If you are thinking about setting up a home theater system, then there are three basic pieces of equipment to consider. They are the screen, the speakers and the player. Two of these pieces of equipment are directly linked to the dimensions of the room in which you will be sitting and where you will be seated.

All DVD players over a certain price are pretty good and you ought to listen to a couple to make up your mind. The same with speakers, although how many you will need is dependent on the dimensions of the room. The screen is more important and that is what I want to talk about here.

It will not actually be of very much help to you to just walk into a department store which stocks fifty or sixty television sets all in rows. You may find that you have a preference for one screen's colour display over another, but the colours are controllable anyway by brightness, contrast and colour mix. You need to view the screen as it will be seen in your home theater.

In order to do this, I always recommend getting a pen, paper, preferably graph paper, and a rule. Draw in the dimensions of the room to the largest scale that the sheet of paper allows, maybe one inch for two feet or there abouts. Then draw a line to symbolize the screen against whichever wall you choose and finally add a few squares for the seats. Now measure the space between them and write that figure down, because it is very important.

Using our scale above, if the gap on paper between the screen and the seating is five inches, the distance in the room will be ten feet and ten feet is 120 inches. A good rule of thumb, when trying to work out screen size is the same one used for paintings, which is that the ideal viewing distance of a picture is between three and five times its diagonal measurement. Therefore, in our illustration, the ideal screen size should be between 40 and 24 inches. Nevertheless, many experts put a minimum screen size for a home theater at 28 inches.

That may come as a bit of a surprise to many of you, because a lot of people think that the answer is the bigger the better. However, primed with this information, now go to the TV store and look at the TV's again. You will find that if you get up too close to some sorts of screen the picture becomes rather poor, particularly with conventional television screens. Plasma and HDTV allow you to get a little closer without losing quality.

Another factor is your age, or at least, the quality of your eyesight. Would you rather watch the film with your glasses on or off? Off for me, so I would tend towards the higher end of our scale or maybe even go above it. My eyes are not going to get any better, but I can always put my glasses on when the time comes that I cannot see my screen properly anymore. However, I want to put that time off for a while yet, so I would go for a 48 inch screen in this example for my home theater. Plasma, if I could afford it.

How To Keep Your Pond In Good Condition

The first concern of every fish keeper, whether it be a pond or a tank is water quality. You need to spend some time and some money every month, looking after the quality of the water in your fish tank or pond. In fact, it is a lot cheaper in terms of time, money and stress to preserve a good quality of water than it is to correct water once you have let it go wrong.

Your filtration system is your number one tool in the fight to maintain good quality water. A good filtration system consists of two facets: mechanical and biological. The mechanical feature removes the physical waste and debris that builds up in any body of water, particularly one that has fish in it.

The mechanical filtration system has to be of a size that it can deal with the volume of water that you have. A pump will suck up the water and pass it through a filter and the clean water, ie minus leaves, algae and faeces, runs back to the pond via a waterfall, which also aids aeration.

The biological filtration system will deal with waste that has already dissolved into the water in the form of nitrogen. if you do not clear this nitrogen, by initiating a nitrogen cycle, it will build up and convert itself into ammonia, which will kill your fish in a matter of days. This nitrogen cycle is essential.

Just think of it, your fish are living, breathing, eating and sleeping in their toilet bowl, so unless you keep their environment clean, they will poison themselves. A river, their natural habitat, is continuously being flushed into the sea and improved with rain. You have to recreate that environment if you want to keep healthy fish.

A good rule of thumb is, if you can see the bottom of your pond, then you are probably doing all right, but do not rest on your laurels. First time pond owners often make the mistake of over-feeding. That excess food becomes waste and has to be removed or it will feed the growth of algae.

Do not fail to remember that, if your fish live outside, they will be eating flies, grubs and larvae so they can quite happily go without a feed for a few weeks. That does not mean that you do not have to feed them, it just means take care. Feed more in the summer than in the winter, because your fish will become listless in the winter.

Quarantine your new fish to make sure that you do not pass on illnesses. For example, the koi herpes virus develops at exactly 74F, so if you heat a tank to that temperature with your new fish in it, you will know whether they are safe to put in the pond or not. During this quarantine period, you must not share implements with your pond and your tank or you risk cross-contaminating your pond.

Koi can be expensive, so when you are setting up your first fish pond, you may like to stock it with goldfish instead until you get the hang of things. Later on, you can add koi carp as they will happily live side-by-side.

What better way to spend a well earned vacation other than spending it on the beach? It can be a truly invigorating experience and one that can help us unwind while enjoying the company of our friends or families. It can also be a great way to spend an exciting moment with that special someone.

Now you have tons of options on where to actually spend a special beach vacation. There are a lot of beaches here in the United States that can be a great way to escape the tedious and busy life we lead back home. There are also tropical destinations for beaches overseas that you might want to check out. This will of course demand extra effort to make travel arrangements or accommodations but can be well worth it due to the fact that tropical countries have the most exotic and beautiful beaches around.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway, few beaches in the world can compare to the ones you would find in Maui Hawaii. It is a popular honeymoon destination and certainly has the flair of romance in it. You can never go wrong choosing this place to enjoy the company of that special someone. There are also other activities that you can share with your spouse.

The Virgin Islands would also prove to be an excellent destination for couples planning a romantic time together. Nothing can be better than a romantic evening by the sea to rekindle the flames of romance.

On the other hand if you are planning a vacation as a fun filled package for the whole family to enjoy then it is best to consider choosing a destination that would provide tons of amusement for your kids. A good place to look would be the beaches located in the state of California.

If you don't have any specific destinations in mind to plan a beach vacation in California then you might want to check out the Sea World as well as the San Diego Zoo. They are very much suitable for families seeking to do something fun and just spend time together.

When planning a beach vacation, it would be best to consider the person that you'd be taking with you. You wouldn't want to go to a family resort when what you're really after is a romantic moment with your special someone.

Proper planning of your beach vacation will involve first and foremost, selecting a destination. This beach vacation should be a fun filled experience for everyone and you can certainly make the best out of it if you plan it well. There are few things in this world that can be as calming and relaxing as spending time with people you care about enjoying the calm and serenity of the sea.

I'm a television junkie so I'm out to discover fresh programs all the time. It could be a long time ongoing show broadcasted by a famous network or a fresh new program found on some random cable channels. Either way, I enjoy watching amazing masterpieces on television.

With that in mind, I would like to refer two shows that I think would definitely be worth your time. I suppose that if you are familiar with these shows, then you already are a fan of them. If not, then here's your chance to start.

Larry David showcased his genuine talent in this show called Curb Your Enthusiasm. It has been running for almost seven years, and it becomes more and more popular as the series progresses. This show never fails to make me laugh.

If you aren't familiar with him, Larry David is actually the man behind the famous Seinfeld. Instead of being just a writer, he starred in this show. It was funny to see him in the midst of some awkward situations, making the show definitely entertaining.

It would look and feel so familiar if you have watched and enjoyed Seinfeld before. Though these days, many people consider this show to have more potential and greater success than Seinfeld.

Since you're already familiar with Curb Your Enthusiasm, I think this next show might not ring a bell. The title is Party Down. It's comedy is almost equal to that of Curb your Enthusiasm because this story shows how a group of caterers can also deal with some good Californian adventure.

The show is entitled Party Down. It depicts the life of caterers who go to different venues to provide services. Their events vary from office team buildings to college fests and high school reunions.

Watch it and you might be able to spot some great actors because they seem to have quite popular cast members.

Tips On Handling Your Stress

In spite of the fact that everyone knows that our levels of stress appear to be rising inexorably year by year, not everyone is aware that not all stress is bad. Stress can help you focus on the matter at hand. The matter could be anything from trying to do a neat job to swimming away from a shark at a speed in excess of what you thought that you were capable of. Stress can help you get a job done and stress can save your life.

However, these 'good' stresses should be short term and once the reason for the stress has passed, the stress should pass with it too. The difficulty is when the stress does not go away, but builds up. When stress builds up to an unbearable level, things start to happen to your body and mind and the consequence can be fatal.

The first thing you have to do is evaluate the cause of the stress that is building up in you. For example, is it psychological, physical or emotional? Stress often arises from disorder, so you could try to introduce some order into that part of your life that is upsetting you. For example, if you are worried about paying bills, you could try organizing your bill payment procedure and stick to it each month - say on the day after your cheque clears. By recognizing the things that are causing you stress, you are better able to put each of them in order and deal with them one by one.

The converse of stress is relaxation, so when you feel any stress building up, take measures to relax. These measures can be simple and not time consuming. For instance, you could spend a moment taking a deep breath or two - many people do this before undertaking a difficult job, many do it without thinking.

You could take a break, get a glass of water or stand up and stretch your muscles. Sometimes, changing focus is enough - if you are balancing your cheque book stubs, change to writing a letter or do something else as an alternative and come back to the stubs later.

Spoil yourself sometimes. Learn to give yourself treats. You could set yourself targets, tasks to be achieved, and reward yourself when you have completed them. I find this a great method for getting rotten jobs done. The more rotten the job, the bigger the reward - anything from a chocolate or a beer to a slap-up meal or a holiday.

You could try listing the advantages and disadvantages of doing something and then 'sleeping on it' - let it rest for a few hours or a day or two and then go back and read your list. Have you missed anything out? Are things still as dreadful as they first seemed? Try to see the good side of a bad situation, after all, every cloud has a silver lining, even if you have to look hard to find it.

Learn your limitations. Sometimes, people will see that you 'appear to manage well', so they will lumber you with more work. If you can not say 'No' sometimes, that can build up into a stressful situation for you even though you are proficient at your job. Some people take advantage - do not let them and do not reproach yourself for taking care of your well-being. It is you who will end up sick, not them. The keys to less stress can also lie in greater physical activity, a better social life and a healthier diet.

A Parent's Roles In Addressing To Their Children's Tattling

Parents with more than one child know that tattling can be an annoying part of childhood. Sibling rivalry can make kids bicker and tell on one another about the most minor of infractions.

One way of dealing with tattling is a method called "passive parenting."

It's important to set the ground rules for tattling. Knowing when and what instances merit tattling will make things clear to your children. Let them know that they should tell you when someone is doing something to physically hurt another person or if they are doing something destructive, like breaking their toys. Also, let your children know that if a child still decides to tattle about something inconsequential they will be the one who is punished.

It works like this. When your child comes to you with a complaint about their sibling, hear them out. Respond with a general statement like, "That's too bad," or "I bet you hate it when they do that?" Say something noncommittal that can be applied to many situations. Don't offer to correct the problem.

If they persist, repeat your statement. Be consistent. Sure, they may get frustrated, but that's OK. It will teach them to solve their own problems. This is effective in many instances and empowers them to fight their own battles.

In other instances, it may be appropriate for your child to have input in setting some rules. For example, as children grow up they enjoy more and more privacy. As a result, they may feel that they don't want their siblings to enter their rooms without their permission.

After some discussion, you and your child may decide that it will be a house rule, that each child must ask permission to enter another's bedroom.

Involving your children in the rulemaking process teaches them how to solve problems in an effective way and get along with others.

Ways To Invite People To An Upcoming Engagement

When a couple gets engaged they often have a party to celebrate the event. This can be planned by the couple or often even by the families of the bride or groom and a gift to the celebrating couple.

When it is time to invite people to the party you can either send out printed or handwritten invitations or just call people on the phone. Do not mention the purpose of the party when you are inviting your guest though. They may already know what the party is for but make an appoint not to mention it in the invitation.

By not mentioning the purpose of the party you are not making your guests feel obligated to bring a gift. If you mention the purpose of the party your intentions of having the party in order to receive gifts may be put to question.

Usually the host of the party will make a toast to the couple which is usually a surprise to the guests. The type of the party thrown is up to the host. It can be anything from a barbeque to an elegant dinner to a cocktail party. The sky is basically the limit here.

Sometime something as simple as a lunch or tea for the bride is a fine substitute for an elegant dinner party. For this you can have the mothers of the bride and groom, relatives, close female friends, and the wedding party in attendance and it will be very quaint and acceptable.

The engagement party is all about having fun, best wishes to the couple, and new beginnings. There's no need to have every detail perfect like you will for the wedding. Just have fun.

You also don't want to go to huge expense with this party because you are going to accumulate quite the bills with the rehearsal dinner and wedding itself. Unless you call off the engagement at the party nothing bad is going to happen.

Just have a good time and enjoy yourself is the most important thing to remember.
